1. Round Table for a sustainable creative economy within the Gothic/Independent Scene
Can black still become greener?
There’s lots do – do we leave it be?
How much eco-friendly dedication does the Independent Music Scene require?
Pirates, groupies and outfits – here are a few unknown facts about a culture that usually comes to public more with other themes:
- the fan’s journeys alone makes 43% of the C0² emissions of the whole music industry
- with a change of jewel case to digipack 95% of the emissions in CD packing could be saved
- a club with the capacity for 2000 people produces around 400 t C0² per year, a festival with 20.000 visitors produces 2,5 times as much – in one weekend
On the margins of the annual Pentecost festival artists, bands, labels, publishers, distributors, broadcasters and initiatives of the Gothic/Independent scene will be discussing on concrete approaches for a sustainable and climate compliant music industry.
Focus will be on: meetings, exchanging experiences, introduction of initiatives, discussions, open atmosphere, looking outside the box, finding common positions and developing ideas. As a special guest, Jacob Bilabel, founder of the Green Music Initiative, will open the roundtable with a keynote speech on the topic. Further pulse lectures are planned.
Questions, we want to discuss together:
- Is eco friendliness in the music economy a topic for the scene?
- Can we afford eco?
- Waste refund, festival car-sharing, LED-light, green merchandise, green electricity, eco-friendly CD production – which approaches are eco-friendly, practically feasible and economically reasonable?
- Being in the first row or just being present – the artist’s role and potential on a conscious approach toward the environment
- Greener festivals: organizers, bands, attendees, caterers, exhibitors – what can every single group contribute?
- Radiohead, Coldplay will show how band initiative can look like – what’s the current position of the independent scene?
